The story…
This artwork is about the circular thought patterns that often occurred during the artist’s time in New Mexico. The wabi-sabi circle woven in a naturally dyed wool roving is the interpetation of what love, as a color, would feel like. It speaks to dreams that were laid upon arriving in New Mexico, most of which did not transpire. The circular journey of experiencing lonliness, heart break & isolation was the challenge the artist continued to explore while producing a vast body of work, often using weaving as therapy. It’s about the completion of cycles, the letting go & testament of operating with full force in life. The ultimate surrender, the poetry of letting go and understanding new cycles await.
The process…
Woven on an upright frame loom, the artwork was warped with linen. The palette was designed to reflect the soil the artist would often sift through for dinosaur bones on her journey in the landscape. A tapestry comb was utilized to compact the wool, silk, roving, horsehair, agave, kenaf fibers. The center panel is woven with rope, wrapped horsehair to float to mimic birds on the horizon. Brass panels were added after dyeing the agave for a modern touch.
